I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Well, while Blu-Ray has been assailing HD-DVD like it was the red headed stepchild of the family as of late, but today it was HD-DVD’s turn to strike back. Paramount Studios, along with affiliate Dreamowrks, will be shipping all future titles on HD-DVD only.

This does not seem big at first until you look at some of the movies just from this past summer that will be on HD-DVD only, like Transformers and Shrek 3. The deal does exclude all Speilberg directed films, as they are not platform specific, but it does cover films he produces. It will also cover all of Nick Studios, MTV, and several other departments. The first HD-DVD title to ship under this agreement will be Blades of Glory, which was suppose to be on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD as of a month ago.

While it is nice to see HD-DVD put up a fight, does anyone really care. Neither look to displace standard DVDs anytime soon. I do like the fact that HD-DVDs can be made as hybrids, so you get standard DVD-9 now and flip it over to get HD-DVD when you are ready to step up. I am also not sure if this can totally stop the head of steam that Blu-Ray has at this point.

Yeah, I picked up 300 on HD-DVD without owning a player yet.

I imagine that I would pick up the HD-DVD add-on to the 360 at some point. Though I don’t want to buy a whole new unit just for HDMI outs.

Again, early adopters get the shaft.

Joe, you’re right on. Not too many people care about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. DVD is still the format of choice and will be for a long time. Upsampled DVDs look identical to high def to most people, and only a minority even owns a set that can display the difference.

Brent, that’s going to depend on whether GGW can keep afloat with all the idiotic legal decisions they’ve made over the past few years. What kind of a moron sells DVDs of drunk naked minors without keeping some kind of paperwork that allows them to claim they didn’t know?
