We waited a long time for a new character to be revealed for Smash Bros Brawl. Yeah, it’s been since Solid Snake was revealed, and that was last year. Unfortunately, the new character is pretty obscure. It’s Ike from Fire Emblem, the long-running turn-based strategy game that Nintendo has only brought to the US in very recent years. Two FE characters were in Melee, Marth and Roy, and neither has been confirmed for Brawl.

There is mention of a special move called “Aether,” which might be more significant if I’d ever played Fire Emblem.

It’s a new character, though. Now if only it could have been that other Ike.

he sn’t obscure, he is the latest hero and the only one the americna audience is like to recognise.

Well, he’s only obscure if you’ve never played Gamecube Fire Emblem…

…which, granted, is most people. I wonder, since the Wii is the hottest thing going at the moment, if that’ll make a difference in the next Fire Emblem’s fortunes? The second Paper Mario got great reviews but barely registered on the map, while Super Paper Mario has already sold over a million copies. Very interesting.

He’s not an obscure Fire Emblem character. He’s the main Fire Emblem character (Path of Radiance, anyway). He is an obscure videogame character, though.
