Nintendo lets fly a month of Metroid with VC releases and a Corruption preview channel.
Once again, my Wii glowed this afternoon with blue light. I was on my way out the door, but now that I’ve had time to have a look, it turns out Nintendo has announced what they’re calling a “month of Metroid,” with Metroid coming to the Virtual Console on August 13th, Super Metroid coming on August 20th (and in case you’ve been keeping track, that’s my most anticipated VC title right there), and the month rolls away with the August 27th release of Metroid Prime 3.
The preview channel, available in the Wii Ware section of the Shop Channel (for free of course), features two videos: a new trailer that shows some new info about the game, including naming three new hunters who will be helping you in the game (though it appears you’re fighting at least one of them at one point in the trailer), and a gameplay video clip showing a somewhat routine-looking battle against a group of enemies in an area that looks identical to a location in the original Metroid Prime. There are two more videos that are locked, and dated for August 13th.
The videos stream in the tiny channel, so they don’t have excellent quality, but they still look better than, say, a YouTube video does.
All in all, it’s looking to be an exciting month for those of us into the franchise. Exciting, and busy.
UPDATE: Added video at top of article. The channel points out that Metroid.com has been updated, but there is no significant change to content, only layout, and a link to the Metroid Prime 3 minisite at wii.com.

The channel was further updated today with two more videos, and one of them details the creation of the ‘Aurora’ supercomputer, widely used by the Galactic Federation. The computer, an organic system, is shown in one shot that brings back memories of a certain past enemy… a brain, one might say…
