Microsoft Releases Windows Vista Performance Update
I just noticed that a few days ago, apparently Microsoft released a patch to improve performance under Windows Vista. According to Microsoft (via Evilavatar.com) this update will “improve the performance of Windows Vista in certain scenarios.” Okay… that doesn’t say much.
Well, in the MS Knowledge Base article associated with this update, they give a much more detailed list of changes. Honestly, the only resolved issue worth noting for me is, “Poor memory management performance occurs.”
I’ll install it and see how it goes, then update this post if I notice any differences.
Oh, and here is a link to the 64-bit version.
UPDATE: Well, I am seeing a general improvement in the amount of memory that Vista is using. It’s gone from using about 50% of my 2GB of RAM down to about 36% (on average). However, Shadowrun still runs like a turd, so haven’t seen any improvements to any games or anything.

I’ve had it installed for a few days… haven’t noticed a huge improvement, but files move faster now.
Windows has never, and my guess is, WILL never manage memory worth a flying ^%$#!
Its pretty sad when an OS uses 3 or 4 hundred meg of ram just at idle. I’m sure Dell and HP LOVE this about windows, but me, not so much.
vista’s memory management was already vastly improved over xp, particularly if you add a cheap USB key for readyboost. it doesn’t matter how much ram it uses when the system is more responsive than xp under the same circumstances
I haven’t noticed much difference with the update, although it does seem that as claimed, the offline file sync behaviour has improved (I use a linux samba server).
blah! I will use Vista in 2 years maybe, giving 1 gb ram for Windows blows…
I had Vista installed on my gaming rig for a few weeks, and then I finally took it off because of the Video driver stopped responding error. I also would have been a lot better off with the other patch that turned on SLI recognition two weeks ago.
