Microsoft Looks to Beat Spider Man 3 Opening

Submitted by on August 14, 2007 – 2:27 pm2 Comments

mcvsspidey.jpgMicrosoft, a company that is all about doing things rather large, has a target in mind when they think about the Halo 3 launch: Spider Man 3.

Microsoft is currently estimating that Halo 3 will make $155 million on its opening day of sales. This would surpass the weekend box office receipts for Spider Man 3, which debut in theaters this past May. When asked for comments on this, Chris Di Cesare, mentioned that while it was not a simple apples to apples comparison, “…it’s big business any way you cut it.”

Sales projections are based on the pre-orders for each version of Halo 3, as well as looking at the previous one day sales mark of Halo 2, which hit $120 million. Looking at these numbers, it is incredible how much the gaming market has grown from the days of games being sold in plastic bags and mom and pop computer shops.

155? maybe you mean 155million, or maybe 155billion? (/me puts pinky finger to corner of mouth).

Anyway, w/o a doubt Halo 3 is going to be a big sale. I don’t know if I would put that much money onto it yet, since I know there was some saltiness with the players after Halo 2. Oh, that and the fact that Halo 2 was playable on both the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox giving a quite larger player base, because I would lay money that says not every Xbox owner has gone and purchased an Xbox 360.

No. It was $155 Trillion dollars. Anything less would be uncivilized.
