Manhunt Receives An M Rating From ESRB

After stating that, “Manhunt 2 will be released”, it looks like it might now be happening. Rockstar went back to the ESRB after making some modifications to the game and it has now received an M rating from the board. There is no word on what changes were made, but the listing for the game at the ESRB states that the game contains, “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs”
The game will still be coming out for the PSP, PS2 and the Wii. No mention of a 360, PS3 or PC version yet, nor does it state that the game will be backwards compatible with the PS3. The game is still under a ban in the UK, but Rockstar and Take Two are appealing the ban.
After Take Two was so stout about not changing the game’s content, one has to wonder what made them change their minds. I have to think that this might be related to Take Two not having a big winner like GTA IV available for the fall. With Manhunt 2 out on shelves, the controversy surrounding it will probably move far more units than it would have without the ratings issue.
