“Hard Drive Required” Sticker Coming

Submitted by on August 6, 2007 – 3:13 pm5 Comments

xbox360-hard-drive.jpgMicrosoft has come out and stated that all 360 games will run on all the 360 SKUs that they have released. Of course this statement was followed up with the following statement, “some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them“. Well, sounds like the 20% of the 360 owners that went with the Core system will either have to buy a hard drive or miss out on future content. And if you are interested, here is what the label will look like when it is affixed to games.

Now to just sit back and enjoy the flame war this whole thing will start in the chat rooms today around the Internet.

I feel pity for the dumb Americans that bought this piece of shit console,Italy+Nintendo FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t get it, for awhile people have been asking for MS to allow devs to require the HDD…and now that they have done JUST THAT, people complain.

Core users knew what they were getting into, and frankly they knew from day one they were sacrificing over half of the console’s functionality in order to save 40 bucks.

And I truly doubt that 20% of the 360 userbase is HDDless. I’d imagine most core owners ponied up the money for an HDD as soon as they could.

Hm. As a Wii owner I think I would be pleased to have a HDD in my system, even if I had to buy it separately. That said, I found the Core system a bad idea by MS to start with. I remember how even when the 360 was in high demand at launch you could still find Core systems without too much trouble, because people would only buy them as a last resort. Whether it’s intentional or not, this just comes across as a ploy to sell more HDD add-ons, especially since, unlike the PS3, you can’t use many widely available regular HDDs in your 360.

FFXI requires a hard drive and it was one of the earlier 360 games. In fact, I think the 2007 edition actually has the label already.

I would think that anyone that got the core system was planning on getting a HD at a later time (when they got more allowance money). Given that the larger drive has been released there should be plenty of 20G second hand drives on ebay for a reasonable price.
