GTA IV Delays Because of PS3?

As we all learned yesterday, Grand Theft Auto IV was delayed until February 1st, 2008 at the earliest. What we did not know was why the delay and why both platforms. Well, now we have a little more clarity on the situation thanks to an interview that appeared on Gamasutra’s website.

Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan, states that “We think it is likely, that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognize how far away from completion the game truly was until recently.” So you would think that this would only effect the PS3 version, so why the hold up on the 360? Well, it is believed that Sony has a contract stipulation that says that Rockstar will not give Microsoft favoritism by releasing the product before the PS3 version is ready to go.

While I think that it stinks that one console is holding up the release of a game on another platform, it helps us gamers out who were already looking at a crowded holiday season.

    Sifer, the quote you have there is also just guesswork.

    I’m as bummed as the next guy about not having GTA IV out this year, but who knows, maybe an as-yet-completely-unannounced PC version will appear that much sooner, making the PC-only gamers happier sooner.
