Gameover: Leisurely Surround Sound Weekend Edition
I was lucky to spend just about the whole weekend doing whatever video gaming and other leisure time activities my brother James and I wanted to do. As a father of two, I almost never get to play games early in the evening let alone in the middle of the day, so we spent quite a bit of time hunkered down basking in the glow of glorious gaming in air conditioning during the sloppy humidity of Friday and Saturday in the northeast. We did take time out to catch a matinee of Transformers on Saturday afternoon, exiting James’ comfortable, air-conditioned car and scurrying through the baking heat of the parking lot into the cool movie theater.
I got to experience James’ new surround sound setup first-hand and it gave the immersion of Oblivion that extra kick. The positional audio support in Rainbow Six: Vegas further stacked the odds against the bad guys. We got to throw in some time working through each others dungeons in Dungeon Maker, and I even did some leaping and bounding through Crackdown even if the downloadable content was slowing down the load times and making the video messages skip and stutter. I have to admit that if I were to get an Xbox 360 from a contest or similar windfall, I’d probably get and play Crackdown almost exclusively for quite a while.
The Transformers movie is worth seeing on the big screen and with an impressive number of big actors in it did a good job of something that could easily have been butchered terribly. Having the original voice actor for Optimus Prime definitely made things a whole lot more cohesive as well. My only gripe is that in order to earn the PG-13 rating they had to make the small Deceipticons be slapstick and comical instead of the brutal Terminator-style death machines they should otherwise have been when fighting humans. That said, Megan Fox‘s jaw-dropping outfits were, well, not PG-13. Please note that oversight by the MPAA ratings board is not a complaint.
What did you play this weekend?
