FIFA 08 To Sport Five on Five Online Multiplayer
Electronic Arts announced that they would support five on five multiplayer matches in FIFA 08. The feature will not be included out of the box, but will be available about five weeks after release, which would put it in the middle of November. EA wants to work towards having full 11 on 11 online play with each player having a set position. That being said, they felt that this was a first step and a way to make the idea a reality in the future.
The new mode will be an extension of the “Be a Pro” mode that puts you in the shoes on one player throughout the games, drills, practices, etc. When you go to online mode, you will be able to select five online partners, while the rest of the team is fleshed out by computer AI controlled characters. You can then take on any team online that has five online competitors in its ranks.
One has to wonder if this new push for 11 on 11 multiplayer has anything to do with competitor Konami and their product, Pro Evolution Soccer pledging to have 11 on 11 multiplayer by the end of the decade. Being a huge soccer fan, I have ot say that this is great news. And luckily, it is online, because I think I would have a hard time finding five friends that are soccer fanatics like myself. And yes, just in case anyone wonders, I know that the game is called football everywhere else in the world.
