Duke Nukem 3D Coming to Xbox Live?

Submitted by on August 13, 2007 – 2:42 pm2 Comments

dukenukemoldskool.jpgGeorge Broussard, 3D Realms bigwig and director of Duke Nukem Forever development, has stated that he is in development talks with Microsoft to bring Duke Nukem 3D to Xbox Live Arcade. In several online postings, he mentions that he has a team ready to port it and all they are waiting on is the go ahead from Microsoft.

While this would be a great way to get Duke Nukem back in a positive light after all the development issues with Duke Nukem Forever, I have to wonder if the game would work on Xbox Live. The content has a decidedly mature shift with throwing dollars at strippers and some crude talk from our protagonist. While it is nothing beyond PG-13 in my eyes, I have to wonder if Microsoft would allow it in an uncut format on Xbox Live.

Maybe they need money to pay the developers still working on Duke4?

This would be pretty funny to play if they include all the extra goodies from the expansions. Shrinking someone down with the shrink ray and then stepping on them while they tried to run away screaming was hy-fricken-sterical back in the day.

These days the game would get an M rating and be done with it.

IIRC, it did get a M rating. I don’t have my original discs anymore, so I can’t look it up. Also, I would not say PG-13 when you consider the fact that when you pay the strippers they will go all the way down to showing off their tassels.

I thought there was some more-risque, albeit hidden, additions in the first official expansion: Plutonium Pak. We all know about the content of the Penthouse add-on. :-P .

I don’t have a Xbox360, but I don’t see why they couldn’t put that content on the marketplace. I mean you have to pay money for it. It all falls into the category of ensuring people-who-are-allowed-to are the ones purchasing the content.

Now the real question will be the cost of it. 3DRealms still sells the game for the PC.
