Can You Hear Me Now?

WHAT!?I joined the HD era back in November 2006 with the purchase of a Samsung TV. Since then, I’ve been dying to complement my crisp picture with a quality surround sound system for my PS3 and 360. Living in an apartment has pushed me off from investing in a high-end system because I know whatever I buy now will be replaced with a system built for a spacious, preferably cathedral living room.

My bud Sammael recently picked up a new sound system to complement his 56″ Samsung, leaving his older 5.1 surround system without a home. The first buyer fell through, so being second in-line I snatched it right up. I’m picking up a couple speaker stands for the rear channels and will run some wires under the carpet tomorrow. Once that’s done, I’m looking forward to some gaming in true high-def fashion.

I’m curious to hear how many of you are running on a full, true surround sound setup for your gaming? For those of you that do have a hardcore setup, do you have any advice for me as I set this beast up?

This biggest thing I can tell you is speaker placement. It will take some time to tune it all out, but where you are putting your rear speakers in regards to where you are sitting makes all the difference in the world.

Also, for extra bass kick, you want to have your sub located in a corner if possible. The bass will use the corner as a way to boost the gain.

Lastly, if you have a good ear, you can make sure to equalize the system to the best of your abilities. A little boost or cut on your levels can make all the difference in sweet serenity or drab muddy sound.

I’m thinking your ability to pinpoint just where the terrorists are in R6Vegas will go from just impressive to superhuman. Say goodbye to stragglers!

    queue Robocop riff.

ya know you got a good sound system when you can crank it to 11, turn up the bass and sit on the crapper and not even have to put forth any effort cause the vibrations are coming up from the floor to the toilet seat.

While you’re at it getting some speaker stands, get some moderately priced high quality cans for when you have to go on those solo missions in R6Vegas at 3am, so you can keep the surround sound volume up and not disturb anybody snoring in the vicinity.

your neighbor X: That is true, especially because I have my Amp set to the “Annoy Neighbors” setting as you can see above.
