Activision Has a Ginormous First Quarter
Something that we touched upon briefly in our last podcast, Activision has posted some huge financial numbers for the first quarter. Net revenues for the quarter were up 163% from the same quarter last year, coming in at $495.5 million. The net profit was $27.8 million compared to the $18 million loss in the same quarter from last year. These numbers allowed Activision to be the number one game maker in North America, displacing EA Games for the first time in a decade at the top of the list.
Leading the way for Activision was Guitar Hero II. The game was at the top of the US console gaming charts. They also had big sell through numbers on the Shrek the Third and Spider Man 3 properties, along with Transformers: The Game.
Also in some interesting news is that Metallica is not an exclusive artist to Rock Band as previously thought. Seems as if we will be seeing “One” from the album, “…And Justice For All.” It will also be an original recording for the game.
