The PC Sets Lost Planet Map Packs Free

This Friday the revenue stream for four Lost Planet map packs on the Xbox Live Marketplace will fall to zero. With the debut of the PC version of the game getting those maps and a bit more included at no extra charge, the Xbox 360 version of the map packs are being released for free, notes Joystiq. The fact that the PC version is also $20 less than the 360 version could also have something to do with this decision.
This seems to continue a trend where the appearance of a newer version of the game including that content on another platform forces Microsoft to give up and avoid the appearance of greed that charging for that content would foster. We saw it with Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PS3 freeing up the red and black map packs, and now with Lost Planet showing up on the PC. I wonder, will anything change with the far-from-tiny downloadables for Oblivion when the Game of the Year edition shows up?
Enjoy the frosty gameplay goodness this Friday, and let us know how you like the maps are if you’re just jumping into them now in the forum.
