Rockstar Table Tennis Falls Into Wii Gravity Well

The announcement of Rockstar’s Table Tennis for the Wii is a cause for celebration for fans of traditionally 3rd-party-deficient Nintendo consoles. Rockstar is the latest developer to fall into the massive gravity well being exerted by the Wii’s phenomenal sales, and probably one of the last ones I figured would fall in.
This could be very big in one other way as well. It’s not just another tennis game to compete with Wii Sports. It could be a full port of their new graphics engine — the engine that’s currently powering Grand Theft Auto IV on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
If they can get a version of that engine to scale fully to the Wii and fully exploit the Wii hardware, Wii owners could see if not the coming Grand Theft Auto IV game ported over, then future ones.
If Rockstar does this, and I hope they do, I wholeheartedly look forward to some innovative controls on the Wii in a full-fledged sandbox game. Bye bye abysmal targeting system!

Table Tennis is the one Rockstar game I’ve always wished I could play on the Wii. This is a wish granted for me.
