PGR4 Is Going to Store A Lot of Races

PGR4.jpgAccording to the story over at Eurogamer, they have some news about Bizarre Creations’ new on demand service for PGR4 that will try to store every race ever run in the game. Looking at how much PGR3 got played by people, that ends up being a lot of races.

The way it works is that you will be asked at the end of each race if you want to upload the race. If you say yes, you are allowed to tag the race with metadata and then it will upload a copy of the entire race to a database that can be searched by users. The developers have stated that they are keeping the downloads small and that you can opt-out.

This could be interesting as long as it does not take hours to get the video uploaded. But to be able to show off your progress, good and bad to the world, or search player videos to see how they beat the harder levels of difficulty, does sound like a lot of fun.

    I’m sure it won’t be a video, just maybe “ghost” information on how the race went, or maybe specific bits of information about each race, e.g. where someone wiped out or how many times they restarted, who placed where, used what car, etc. Maybe how often users quit from a race, were ejected due to network issues, or something else like that will be grabbed too.

    Either way collecting this information and data mining it to produce better tracks and gameplay experiences sounds like a great thing to do.

    Actually, Bizarre said it would not be an avi file, but it is a watchable replay of the race. Not sure how it is going to work, but they do have me curious.
