MGS4 Publisher Mulls Exclusiveness of the Title

Submitted by on July 10, 2007 – 4:04 pm3 Comments

MGS4figure.jpgKazumi Kitaue, European and North American President of Konami, Inc., mentioned that he is disenfranchised by the $100 price cut of the PlayStation 3. In his interview with Reuters, he mentions that for $500, “you can buy a computer.”

Near the end of the interview, Kitaue talked about not seeing enough of an installed base on Playstation 3 to justify the exclusiveness of the title. He stated that the game “was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game… but we might have to take some steps.”

Now while Kitaue never flat out states that the game is coming to the 360 or any other platform, he is definitely warning Sony that they need to get more units sold if they want to keep Metal Gear Solid 4 a PS3 exclusive. It will be interesting to see what they have to say at E3 about these statements.

    FREE MGS4!

I would love to see this game on 360 or even Wii, no reason to go exclusive when the install base is so small. Let Snake breathe. Let him stretch his legs.

I guess it depends on how you read the “take some steps” part. I think its too vague to jump to multi-platform release; it could mean “we might have to take some steps for it to remain exclusive”.

Personally, I don’t think the market for a 360 version of the game is there. Most of the comments on topics like these read something like “Multiplatform 360 FTW! Sony is finished” instead of having anything to do with playing the game. It seems to be more people that hate Sony than people that want to play the game.

The statement sounds more like he’s considering having the game come to PCs. That wouldn’t be without precedent for the series, either, as MGS2 was on PC. Not sure about 1 or 3.
