Konami Press Conference Blow by Blow (now with pix)

konamilogo123.gifOkay guys, after technical difficulties, we are back online. Seems that E3 this year only has one 3mbit connection for everyone at the hotel where all the press events are happening. So it is a logjam when you try to get out. On the plus side, I did bump into Morgan Webb, literally. And I saw The Vede and crew from PC Gamer. Later I will have stuff from Midway, Eidos and Lucasarts. But for now, we are on with Konami and the show should be starting in five minutes, so enjoy.

We start with Anthony Krause, the VP of marketing. Seems to be a bit nervous, but I can see that happening when you are on stage. Talking about the cultural and fitness impact of Dance Dance Revolution. There are two new DDR properties. DDR Universe 2 for the 360 and DDR SuperMix 2 for the PS3. DDR Dance Party will be released for the Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo DS fans will have Contra 4 coming to it this fall. The PSP is not left out as it is getting Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, and Silent Hill: Origins.

Now we are getting a video. Silent Hill V is the new game that they are announcing today. It will be coming to the next generation platforms. They want to return the series back to its roots by scarring the user. 360 and PS3 will get this game. You take on the role of Alex Sheppard, a soldier coming back from a war. His brother is missing and the chase to find him takes him to the eerie town of Silent Hill. They feel this Silent Hill is the most ambitious yet.

abKonamiPress 008.JPGNow we get famed creator Hideo Kojima, of the Metal Gear Solid series. He speaks about how relevant E3 is to the media and the public. He wants a return to the old school E3 and I have to agree with him. I have never played a Metal Gear Solid game, but the trailer looks amazing.

The video starts with Snake leading a group of soldiers in to assassinate Liquid Snake. As the soldiers move in, a gas is released from some vents. It starts to make all the soldiers spasm. They writhe around on the ground as they start to vomit from the gas. Snake is unaffected by this gas. Snake then mentions that Liqud Snake has finally found a way to totally control soldiers on the battlefield with this new gas. Next sequence in the trailer shows two characters in a huge choreographed battle. It is a great battle. Both fighters have been genetically enhanced and the battle defies gravity as they fight furiously. At one point, one of the fighters gets behind the other and wraps the other fighter in a choke hold. Instead of going down, the second fighter takes a sword and stabs it through him and into the guy behind him. Really good stuff.

And that was it from them. Conference over for Konami. I will give more on the Metal Gear Solid trailer later… since they are clearing us out.

The MGS4 trailer Joe mentions is on the PlayStation Store as well as elsewhere as of yesterday afternoon. The final fight he talks about is between Raiden and Vamp, and it’s amazing to see him fighting an equal, human-sized opponent after seeing Raiden fighting Metal Gears in a previous trailer. It goes on quite a long time.
