Nintendo is a sell out

In fact this is the biggest sellout since Green Day signed to a major record label back in 94 and Judas Iscariot in the garden of Gethsemane.

Nintendo has made their system a perfect bridge into gaming for everyone. Once new gamers get a full range of ideas as to how the Wiimote and nunchuk work, then they're ready for combinations and tweaks from other games that are less casual. It's all about making someone understand conceptually what a video game is, how they generally work in a simulation sense, and get them to overcome the fear of a controller.

For old, hardcore gamers it's a novelty and it's innovation, and fun is fun. It's like an appetizer. They're the ones running in droves to buy remakes of games with Wii controls because when it's done right they WANT to play games this way. That's why RE4Wii can't stay in stock, and why Umbrella Chronicles will sell out, and so on. Plus, if they're now able to play games with others in our household where they couldn't before, I really don't see a downside there.

One of my coworkers really likes to play Zelda on the Wii her boyfriend owns and she's NOT a gamer. Why? "Because you swing the sword with the controller! It's cool, it's not hard to do." Her enjoyment of the controls makes THAT the hook, not the graphics, not the sound, not the story. So when I recalled how hilarious it was to play Rayman Raving Rabbids when drawing things on screen for the rabbid to eat, she was immediately interested.
