Inafune repeats, no Okami planned for Wii.

In an interview up now at the site, GameInformer asks Keiji Inafune (Mega Man, Dead Rising) about all things Capcom, including the changes involving Clover and the returning question of whether Capcom’s considered putting Okami on the Wii. Here’s how it reads.

GI: With Clover

This is crazy. The game is made for the wii. people have readily dmeonstrated they are willing to buy re4 for the second or 3rd time on the wii, even though RE4 for cube works fine.

And yet capcom doesn’t see the money making potential of this game?

RE4 is a broader game with a lot more people involved in development. Since Okami was produced by the much smaller Clover team, the most important members of which don’t work at Capcom anymore, it becomes a concern whether they could do an effective job at porting the game over. This is their explanation.

That doesn’t mean they couldn’t hire the former Clover members to oversee an Okami port or sequel. The interview only really seems to say that Capcom’s not planning to do it. That may not be the same as saying, Capcom’s not going to pay Okami’s creators to port the game to Wii.

The unwillingness to come out and say, yes, we’re doing this, could just be that they want to show the game when it’s ready to be shown. If we want to get really hopeful we could say maybe they’re enhancing it for the Wii’s specs. We’ve seen too many sloppy PS2 ports on the Wii already.
