FFVII is selling for HOW MUCH?

Final Fantasy VII is running right around $50 online right now. That’s used. The eventual release of the game on the PlayStation Store makes the current price tag for used copies of the PS1 game hard to swallow. It’s also probably not going to be too much longer before the game makes a much-enhanced appearance on the industry-swallowing Nintendo DS.

A little more than two years ago, I sold a PS2 and the games I had along with it, including a launch copy of Final Fantasy VII. At the time, the game wasn’t running more than $15 on eBay’s Half.com. The best I could do for mine was around five bucks. I couldn’t find the manual. But today the manual turned up, so I had a look online to see if I could sell it for anything, and I was amazed to see the same game that I sold for $15 had appreciated as much as it had. And why?

I’m not sure how long the game has been out of print, but I’m pretty sure just about everyone who’s ever owned a PlayStation owned the game. I mean, I see it at every garage sale I go to… now I know to buy it when I see it and resell it online. Personally, I think while the game may have been important, it’s pretty overrated, even when only considered within the line of numbered Final Fantasy games.

What do you guys think? Is any game this old worth this much money? What’s the most you’ve paid for an old game?

That much for FFVII? Hell no. Horrible game.

For others, though…I did buy a mint copy of Valkyrie Profile for $130. Absolutely worth it.

I have never paid an overly exorbitant fee for a game. That is the reason why I don’t own a copy of Secret of Mana for the SNES ($30-80 ????). I did buy FF7 twice though. When it was originally released, I did not have a PS1. Once it debuted on the PC, I quickly gobbled up a copy of it. A few years later, I bought a PS1 and picked up the PS1 version as well. While it was staying w/ my friend in college, a person down the dorm hallway borrowed it but never returned it (since he never came back after the first semester). I had to then buy another copy of it. So in my possession I have the PC version, disc 3 from the original PS1 release, and a full set from the re-release under the Greatest Hits moniker.

It’s also why I don’t own a copy of Symphony of Darkness for the PS1. Once that game went out of print, its price shot-up to >=$50.

Horrible game? I beg to differ, but trying to debate the quality of it is like talking about religion or politics. People either loved it or hated it.

i remember when i moved out to new york to start school 5 years ago, i bought a playstation 2 and the only games i bought for it were FF VII and FF tactics. needless to say, im a pretty die hard fan. i do get frustrated at the ridiculous prices of some used games, especially when presumably the companies could feasibly find way to release the games again. particularly in my mind are ogre battle/tactics ogre and marvel super heroes vs street fighter for the ps1.

I have never paid a lot for used games, because for the most part, I keep all my old games. That and no one buys used PC games except on eBay.

I did pay $135 for the Criterion collection version of Hard Boiled and another $120 for The Killer Criterion collection.

That’s crazy, a game that sold that many copies should not be going for that much. Everyone I know that had a PS1 owned that game. The most I’ve ever paid for an old game is $10 for a copy of Rockman 3 for Famicom, and $10 for Deja Vu for NES.

I really think that FFVII is worth 50 bucks it is the best game that i have ever played. Once you really love FF you dont care about the prices.
