A First Look at Kane and Lynch
Eidos had some new gameplay footage of the new game Kane and Lynch and showed it off at their private booth today. First off, the game uses a modified version of the game engine used in Hitman: Blood Money. Levels can have hundreds of people scripted to act with level elements and sound.
The first sequence takes place with Kane and Lynch trying to get info out of the owner of a club. They cannot bring any weapons into the club, so the first order of business is to go and find a weapon in the club. While going through the club, you hear Kane and Lynch arguing and discussing things. This is how the story is relayed to the player. Every time you see these guys go at it, you will learn more of the backstory and how they got to where they are now. Also, I was unaware that the characters hate each other. They do not like each other at all according to the PR rep. Attacking a guard gets you the weapon you so desire and you muscle your way into the owner’s office.
Next you have to escape the office with the club owner in tow. What starts as low key blows up as more people notice you. You end up in a full on firefight with club security. Civilians flail about causing a lot of interference for not only you but the security as well.
One other sequence they show is storming a boardroom meeting. This demo shows off the command structure you can use with hired help. You can hire extra mercenaries and give them directives. In this mission, you can send your minions up one ramp, while you go to the other ramp and flank the bad guys. It works similar to the way Freedom Fighters worked. One button to attack, one button to regroup and one to have them join. It is a fairly simple mechanic. The gunfight is very dynamic. One thing that I didn’t like is that the quick fire is auto aimed. This may make it a bit too simple to hit people.
The game is coming to PC, PS3 and the 360 in November of 2007. The reps also let us know that the game will support Games for Windows Live. It will also have co-op play on the same machine, and there will be a multiplayer mode that will be announced and demoed at a later date.
