Wayforward building Contra 4 for Nintendo DS.
Those of us who played endless hours of Contra and Super C on the NES, and then drooled over the pages of Nintendo Power as we waited for the release of Contra III on Super NES were thrilled to hear that Contra 4, which is to be an immediate sequel to Contra III, will be coming to the Nintendo DS in 2007. This will be a 2D game that spans both screens (think Sonic Rush). Konami claims we’ll see “massive boss battles,” a grappling hook (hey, like Bionic Commando?), and two-player action. There is no mention of online or download play. Wayforward is developing this for Konami, and according to Wayforward’s Wikipedia article, they’re behind quite an eclectic bunch of games:
Some highlights include Sigma Star Saga on GBA and a couple of Shantae games. Just about everything else is licensed children’s fare like the Spongebob Squarepants games. There goes all that excitement.
