We haven’t seen a lot of jet fighting games on Nintendo’s touchy-feely handheld phenomenon. Taking into account my affinity for the scrolling shooter genre, you’re probably not too surprised that Time Ace caught my eye. Of course, it’s not that genre exactly, but when I ended up passing on Heatseeker, I made a mental note to watch for what might be available to me next.

What is surprising is that the game hasn’t popped up before, considering it shipped more than a week ago, and I’m usually very good at following most of what Konami’s up to, since they are my favorite third party developer. Castlevania, hello. This one’s not developed by Konami though, it’s Trainwreck Studios. Trainwreck? Uh-oh. Well, Trainwreck is apparently also known as 2015, most recently known for Men of Valor on PC and Xbox.

The idea is that it’s a flight game where you travel through time, piloting aircraft from the past, present, and future in an attempt to stop your standard bad guy with a German name who’s stolen your time machine. You complete missions in open areas that are spread across nine time periods. Local multiplayer (no mention of download play) lets you compete in racing, dogfighting, and other modes.

Check out the June 12th press release below with a screenshot. Or you can just take a look at 1up’s review. They gave it a three. That’s out of ten.
