Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Stor3d: Super Stardust HD, GTA IV Trailer 2, and Dynasty Warriors GUNDAM.

superstardusthd_reflected.pngSuper Stardust HD hit the PlayStation Store today, and its UK and AU reviews precede it on IGN with 8.5-or-so review scores in both regions. The only downside I can see to the action-packed two-stick-shooter is that there’s no demo for it. You either pay your $7.99 or you walk on by.

A different demo was released on the Store as well, today, though, and that demo is Dynasty Warriors: GUNDAM. I don’t quite know why they’d want to put the name GUNDAM on anything after the abysmal GUNDAM game that launched on the system, but I guess taking the GUNDAM intellectual property and marrying it to the Dynasty Warriors gameplay might work out nicely.

As for video content, we have a zero-day HD version of the newest GTA IV trailer which I can safely say has reminded me very clearly of just how good the stories in the GTA games can be. We get a real look at the protagonist and lots of strong hints at his motivations and an overall plot through what appear to be lots of in-engine cut scenes. Joystiq had a bevy of facts from Rockstar in case we wanted to know if it’s pre-rendered or not:

“* All footage is captured in real-time on a next generation gaming console
* It’s running on Rockstar’s RAGE engine, also used in Table Tennis
* The game uses euphoria, a fully procedural animation package created by NaturalMotion
* The music — titled “Arm In Arm (Shy Child Remix)” — is by New York City-based band The Boggs”

Top that off with a bevy of movie trailers for I Know Who Killed Me, Superbad, License to Wed, and The Invasion, and there’s plenty to see.

Oh, and in what I think is a first I actually received the “What’s New” email from Sony talking about these items the same day they appeared on the Store.
