Redundant SFII listings on ESRB creates questions.

Reports around the web that a game called Dr. Mario Wii had appeared on the ESRB site cannot be verified, as there is no such listing on the site now, which makes me think it was an error and the commotion brought it to the attention of whoever’s managing the site, who removed it. Note the image above that shows no new versions of Dr. Mario since Dr. Mario and Puzzle League for GBA.

While looking for this mysterious entry, I happened to notice two instances of Street Fighter II for Wii on there. One is Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The other is Street Fighter II Turbo. Both of these would be SNES games, judging by the titles (Hyper Fighting was used to differentiate the version of Turbo on the Genesis). So what’s going to happen, now? Is Nintendo going to publish Turbo to the Virtual Console, punching those who already picked up World Warrior in the arm? What happens when Nintendo gets its act together and Capcom’s ready to release the real arcade versions of these games, rather than the inferior home console ports? I had always assumed that they simply wouldn’t release another version of the same game on the VC, but it looks like my assumption may have been incorrect.

I guess we’ll see what happens. Personally, what I’d like to see is Turbo coming out as an “update” to the existing World Warrior version, and then eventually the arcade one supplanting that, so early adopters will get the free upgrade each time. That is the only fair way to do this.

This would rock, but I doubt it will happen. I played the hell out of “turbo” in college, and mistakenly bought “world warrior” when it came out. It was totally not the game I remember, missing all my favorites! So now I’ll probably have to buy “turbo” when it comes out. Damn it!
