Katamari Damacy is to Become 360 Exclusive

Newsweek has an interesting article in which it discusses how Namco Bandai has been migrating more of its titles to the 360 as exclusives. Now it has a tip that Beautiful Katamari will also become a 360 exclusive. This is a bit shocker as the Katamari games have normally been a stalwart on the Sony systems. While no details have been mentioned about how they got the exclusive, it seems to be linked to the lack of PS3 sales in comparison to the 360 numbers.

While Katamari Damacy may come to the PS3 at some point, this is a rather big deal in the here and now as it seems that the development priorities at Namco Bandai are for the 360.

    Oh for crying out loud!

    Katamari Damacy would be a perfect fit on Wii, but it would still be much better off on the Playstation line than X-box!

    I have to agree with John: Terrible plan.

    I can’t say I’m an authority on it, but all the people I know that have X360s are not the type of people that play games like Katamari. All of them. Indicative of the whole market? No, I can’t imagine it is, but unless they went from PS2 to Xbox 360, I doubt people will pick it up for lack of experience and more of a taste for shooters and sports titles (which Xbox and 360 seem to have as the primary game types).

    Actually, one of my friends who usually pretty much only plays 360 shooters went out and rented a PS2 and a copy of Katamari for about a month when it first came out. He didn’t actually *buy* it (due to anti-Sony fanboy-ism), but you know. Some 360 owners are actually capable of playing other types of games.

    Just throwing that out there.

    Didn’t Namco A) already say that multiple Katamari games are coming for multiple systems? and B) register several different potential name trademarks, IE, “Beautiful” could be the 360 “exclusive” and “Whatever” could be for another system.

    No matter. This game will be as “exclusive” as Splinter Cell. Remember, we’re talking about the bastards who, previous generation, invented the timed exclusive and liberally used the Only On Xbox tag.

    This is FUD.

    And that’s exactly the point, Microsoft is trying to broaden their demographic.
