Ears on: 1up’s Retronauts Podcast

I’ve been listening to a lot of different podcasts lately in an attempt to ensure that I have a continuous supply of gaming information to listen to during my commute and the like, and I recently decided to give 1up’s Retronauts podcast a try. It’s an interesting concept for a podcast, because it’s entirely about old games. There’s a lot of nostalgia present as host Jeremy Parish and the other (rotating) people on board clearly all have a solid long-term gaming experience that they speak from. It’s actually very comfortable for me because it’s a lot like having a conversation with my brothers.
Old games and old-style games are both covered, and in a very informal way. Episode 26, for example, is about 20 years of Mega Man games. They discuss what’s right, what’s wrong, what their favorite games are (Mega Man Legends surprised me, but I imagine only because I’ve never played it) and to give you some idea of how they tie it in, Dead Rising is named as “the best Mega Man game in a long time.”
I’ve listened to the most recent three podcasts, and the newest one (Episode 26) ends with the note that it will likely be the last one for a while, “completing the first season box set.” Now would be a great time to catch up on the older content available there, I will be doing so myself. There is also apparently a related video podcast called “Bonus Stage” which I will be checking out.
