Codemasters’ Race Driver: Create and Race for DS has one feature that catches the eye above all others, and that is the ability to build your own tracks using the precision of the touchscreen and stylus. Today they released some new information on exactly how that’s going to work. Freehand track drawing? Online play? It’s all there.

One option lets you drag-and-drop the track together. Another has you draw the track freehand, and the system assembles the track from the palette of track pieces available, allowing you to erase with your “handy rubber.” You can do a flyover of the track or take a drive on it to test it out when you’re done. Custom-built tracks can be raced mutliplayer, apparently even online via Nintendo WFC.

My nostalgia alarm is kicking on here, and I can’t stop thinking about Racing Destruction Set for the Commodore 64. Oh, the fun I had making tracks that were completely unnavigable.

The game gives you 32 real-life tracks and 20 licensed cars to use, but there’s no word on whether you’ll have to unlock any of them or if they’re all available from the get-go. Check out the press release and some art below.
