Blockbuster Chooses Blu-ray

HD DVD vs Blu-rayNot long ago Wal-Mart chose to favor HD-DVD, citing the relative cheapness of the players and discs. Today Blockbuster weighed in and announced that Blu-ray will exclusively be stocked at its 1,700 stores nationwide.

Why would Blockbuster do this? Because their pilot test of both HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs in select stores resulted in 70% of consumers choosing Blu-ray over the HD-DVD.

Am I glad to see Blockbuster choose Blu-ray? As a PS3 owner, I suppose, but it has been a very, very long time since I’ve rented from anywhere but Netflix, and they support both.

    Yippie. So now every redneck minimum wager in America is going to start renting Blu Rays and getting their damn fingerprints all over the back of the discs and find new ways to scratch them all to hell.
