Never played The Sims? Or is your computer not up to running The Sims 2? There’s a flash-based version called My Mini Life now, under the guise of social networking. It’s all here – building your home, customizing the look and the objects, creating your MiniMe, interacting… everything. In fact, everything looks a little too close to the actual game… it’s a wonder EA hasn’t sent them a Cease & Desist.

I signed up to try it out and found the interface frustrating. It was difficult to scroll around while papering my walls, for example. Also, there are duplicated controls… right next to each other, there’s a Purchase Floors button along with a dropdown that also lets you purchase floors. I use the term purchase loosely… it didn’t show any money display.

I quickly got bored and gave up, since I had the original Sims and all its expansions, and this is just a regurgitation. Obviously there are way too few items and customizations compared to the real game, plus all the fan downloads. While you can walk around and interact, there’s seemingly no real goal, nor is there any apparent passage of time. It didn’t last 10 minutes with me and I doubt it would with any Sims fan. Still, if you’ve never played The Sims and want a small taste of what it’s like, try it.
