Warhawk on Blu-ray, with Beta and Bluetooth headset
The Warhawk open beta has been announced and is set to start in about an hour. I just heard last night about its unique gameplay mode called Zone and Sony has announced the game will ship on Blu-ray with some nice extras in addition to the PlayStation Store version. Whew!
Ok, so the beta starts Friday, May 25th, but you have to admit that is really short notice after today’s announcement. You can sign up at the official site. I just got around to watching G4′s exclusive interview with the Warhawk team last night which revealed what will set the game apart from other Battlefield-like combat games.
The Zone game mode is unique to the game and involves capturing and holding key points on the map. The twist is that the longer you hold a point, the wider the diameter of the zone of influence of that point. As the zone expands, more powerups become available in the expanding zone for ground and air forces, and an expanding zone can’t keep expanding if the other team’s zone is bumping up against it. So the longer you hold a zone, the more territory you control, and the harder your opponents will fight to break that hold to keep from being overrun.
The Blu-ray version will ship with a bluetooth headset and extra video goodies like developer interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. Sounds similar to the God of War II pack-in DVD to me, which incidentally is very good.
