Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow is Longer Than You Think

syphonfilter_logansshadow_ship-1sm.pngI’m thrilled to see Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is getting a sequel with Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow. This new entry to one of the best single-player and multi-player titles on the PSP will have at least one great new feature — the Havok physics engine — and a couple of things I’m not too sure will make the game that much better.

The cover system in SFDM was great, and adding blind fire to it will I suppose help things along, but I don’t particularly think “360 degree underwater combat” will be anything but frustrating. Remember, this is the handheld with no second analog stick-nub-whatever. I will say the underwater screen shot looks impressive.

If Dark Mirror hadn’t so completely nailed the perfect shooter control scheme for the PSP I’d be worried about the “contextual combat system that adds some new and unique melee attacks, from neck snaps to knife kills”. Those will likely be a single button push, so no problem with control there.

One interesting note. There’s been an entry for Logan’s Shadow over at GameTab since before Dark Mirror was announced. I’m guessing someone found a list of the early names for Dark Mirror and Sony just decided to use one of the unused ones from the first game for the sequel. Truth be told the title meant almost nothing to the core plot of the first game.
