Stupid people ruining a game for others

acwwswearing.jpgI feel bad for this 11-year-old girl. She got a copy of Animal Crossing, most likely used, or else took the game online. The previous owner (or whomever she visited), being an immature idiot, thought it would be funny to teach his own animals the f-word. Now this little girl has animals saying that in her game, and her mom has banned her from playing it.

In typical media fashion, the headline is: “Girl says Nintendo swore at her.” No, no they didn’t. Some moron who has no class did.

    The software doesn’t allow you to enter profane text as it’s shown in the picture. Either this is a hoax or someone’s using a hacked ROM of the game that allows profanity.

    Stephen is probably right here. Animal Crossing DS has an online function, it’s probably got fairly strict filtering.

    I’ve got the game and it is possible.
    Do you really think an 11 year old girl is capable of creating/obtaining a hacked rom and running it on her ds?

    My wife and I also have two copies of the game, and we’ve played online with other players. It refuses to allow you to enter strings like “fuck” and “cunt”. You need to break the strings (as in, “f u c k” or “c u n t”) in order to get them through, and the picture shown shows the strings of characters intact. Either she played the game with someone who hacked their game, or the picture’s a hoax. The whole story could just as easily be a hoax, who knows if someone just dug up some picture of some girl holding up a bag of chee-tos and inserted a DS Lite with doctored screenshot in Photoshop. Something is not right.

    You can’t even enter profanity when chatting with someone. It blanks it out of the bubble and you get white space.
