Starting to wish my Wii Remotes weren’t wireless.

I mentioned the odd experience of having my Wii Remotes spontaneously lose their sync the first time it happened. The second time it happened, I lost my suspended state in Super Mario Bros because it happened after I loaded the game. And now, it’s happened three times in the past 24 hours, taking my suspended state in Bomberman ’93 with it the third time. I’m starting to get really annoyed with this, to put it gently.
While it’s clear I’m not the only one on this blog having bluetooth connection problems with his game controllers, and it really could be much worse, I’ve really had enough of this, and I’m offering a solution to Nintendo.
We need a firmware upgrade that allows us to sync our controllers from the Home menu, not just from the “Health and Safety” screen at system boot. Making us reset the system to resync means losing unsaved information, and without a Wii Remote synced there’s no way to save. I would only call this a temporary solution, but I have a feeling there’s something interfering with my bluetooth signal here and until I isolate that, this is going to be a pain in the neck.

Yeah, Bluetooth is trash. I never need to re-sync my controllers but having my PS3 controllers randomly disconnect and reconnect is a pain in the ass.
I can assure you, you are one of the only people having this problem. Nobody of the dozen or so people i know with a wii have this problem. I have never experienced this problem. Perhaps it is an issue with your controllers or console.
I must stress again, this doesn’t seem to be widespread like the ps3 disconnect issue. I have never heard of anyone having this problem with the wii.
Sorry to hear this. I had to re-sync once on the first day I got my Wii (launch day) and never since.
That’s a real bummer about losing the save state. I haven’t tried it but maybe you could back up your copy of the VC game you’re playing (maybe to an SD card?) and the save state will be copied with it? Not sure I haven’t tried it.
As I mentioned in the article, I’m convinced it is something in (or near) my home interfering with the signal, not the controllers or the console. In the time between now and the time I figure out it’s something across the street at the industrial site and I’m stuck with it, I want to be able to resync from the Home menu.
You can resync without having to restart. Just hit the home button any time, there is the top section to close and then the bottom which when you click up on it brings up a menu to resync controllers.
Thanks for the suggestion, Simon, but you don’t seem to understand. Pressing any button on any controller, including the Home button, only makes all the LEDs flash on the Wii Remote. No response from the console, because the controllers aren’t synced. The menu option you’re talking about is to add temporary controllers to the console which only remain until powered off. Which might work fine, but I can’t open that menu at all without a synced Remote.
Sounds like you are not pairing your remotes to the system properly.
A friend of mine didn’t realize that you can “permanently” sync your remotes to the Wii by hitting the sync button inside the remote (next to the batteries) and the sync button on the Wii (next to where the SD card goes) at the same time.
Are you “syncing” them by holding 1+2 at the same time under the menus? This is a “temporary sync” which you can use when a friend brings over their remote…
Or is this a Virtual Console only problem? The other day, I was playing Super Paper Mario with a remote with very low batteries. The remote eventually died, and I just hit a button on another remote and I was back in the game…
you know, I always thought this happened when the batteries got low… and I did not know that this happen with the PS3 controllers as well…
my question is… why doesn’t this happen with the xbox 360 controllers? i have never had to re-sync any of 360 controllers…
i think it could be all those weird cyborg bluetooth ear geeks walking around and using the bluetooth until their teeth turn blue…
God, for some reason those bluetooth ear things annoy the crap out of me… sometimes I just want to scream out… “Hey!!! robocop!!! STFUAJPG!!!”
