Microsoft sued over fire
In December 2004, the Kline family’s house burned down, and their infant son died in the blaze. They claim the source of the fire was a power cord – what kind of power cord? Hold on a second. In February 2005, you’ll remember Microsoft recalled the original Xbox’s power cords. The family claims it was an Xbox 360 power cord that caused the fire… interesting, since the 360 wasn’t released yet!
Okay, so they are confused, you say… understandable, given the loss of their child. In my opinion, though, their case hinges on one thing. Did they have smoke detectors? If not, I hope their case is thrown out. Smoke detectors might not have saved their house, but at least they’d probably have been able to get the child out.
Wait, before you start sending angry comments… I know this was a tragedy, and they lost their child. But Microsoft did eventually recall the cords. If they had known that the cords were faulty and not recalled them, they’d have a case.
