Jamie Pressley Not Singing the Blues about DOA Movie

Submitted by on May 10, 2007 – 3:11 am6 Comments

doamovie.jpgAs most gamers are aware, there was a Dead or Alive movie put on celluloid several months ago. But no one has ever been able to watch this film in the states, unless you ripped it off of Google Video a few months ago. It was screened in Europe and did not fare well with the audiences there.

So how do the stars of the movie feel about this non-release? Jamie Pressley came out and told Rotten Tomatoes that she is not all that upset that the movie has not been released. She talked about how some things were not done as well as they would have been on a traditional set (it was filmed in small villages in China), and that gamers would have been disappointed in how the movie took liberties with the source material.

While I knew this movie would be horrible from the early trailers and pictures, I would like to see it. I am an avid viewer of horrible cinema and when you watch movies like this, it is like the train wreck that you tell yourself not to watch, yet you cannot take your eyes off of it.

    It’s a guy flick. Thinly held together excuse to watch chicks in various stages of revealing clothing prance around the screen and occasionally fight (they even threw in a beach volleyball scene).

    You’ll only want to watch it once, I saw it on a 2 storey high ex-IMAX screen here in Brisbane ;)

    @Andrew,

    So, what you’re saying is, it follows the source material very well? ;)

    Seriously though, I saw it, (google pulldown, played via orb on my Wii) and it is just like every other mortal kombat style movie. We get to meet people all over the world as they congregate for a great martial arts marathon bla bla bla. As for as stinky cinema goes, this was actually pretty good. The thing I enjoyed was that the people who made this movie took themselves very seriously. I loved how they delivered the DOA invitations, cell phone-ish daggers just flying in from nowhere. Hilarious!

    I have seen the Iraqi’s here on our FOB selling copies of it. I didn’t know it wasn’t available in the states. Maybe I will go check it out.

    Ah horrible movies. I myself happen to be a conniseur as well.

    Alone in the Dark was impossibly bad. If you’ve seen it, the late camera cut when the girl is dead on the dirt floor and you see her start to get up was priceless!!!!

    A few non game related ones – Trolls 2, Dr. Giggles, any Leprachan movie and the two Jack Frost movies. Wow, pitiful. Godd for a laugh.

    Oh, and Killer Clowns from Outerspace.

    @sammael,

    I’d love to watch some movies with you sometime. I noticed all those you mentioned (classics btw) happen to be horror. I hope it’s coincidence, because if not, you are missing some serious gems in the sci-fi, and fantasy genres, never mind the martial arts. I got started on the bad movie kick with horror back in the day. I used to read fangoria magazine. I loved that section called “skeletons in the closet” (not sure if they still do that) where they would profile some mega star from current day and tell you what really shitty horror movies they got started on, like Jennifer Anniston in Leprechaun or Leo Di Caprio in Critters 3. Great stuff. In fact, I just watched the SEQUEL to the Dungeons and Dragons movie. Holy shit that was a riot. Also, FYI, the sci fi channel is having a “creature feature” marathon with recent straight-to-digital distro faves like “Manticore”, “The Snake King” (Stephen Baldwin FTW!) and many others. Check em out if you like C horror movies, they should be chock full of bad edits, shoddy camera work, heavy handed over and underacting and maybe even some really poorly scripted love scenes!

    And of course any movie with Clint Howard thats not also directed by his brother is an instant classic.
