Gird Thyself For The Summertime Blues

Fancyrat1.jpgI like winter. Even though the weather can become cold and snowy, I can always throw more layers on. Not only that, it always seems there is a steady stream of new games that are either released before the holidays, or ended up missing their holiday release date and were pushed back a few months.

Then, there’s summer. It’s getting hotter, and let’s face it, I can only take so many layers off before people start calling the cops. And for someone that has violent allergic reactions to tree and weed pollen, I usually don’t want to go outside anyway. So, it comes down to staying indoors and stoking up the air conditioner. But where are the video games? Bioshock and Mass Effect both got pushed back. And besides Halo 2 for Vista and the Halo 3 beta, it’s nothing but a bunch of lame movie tie-ins. Spider-man 3? Shrek 3? Bad Disney ride 3? ARRGGGHHHH!!!!

So, I’ve found myself not actually playing a ton of video games. Which is partly why I haven’t posted a lot in the past month or so. I’ve gotten a lot of reading done. I highly recommend World War Z to any and all. I also just finished The Children of Hurin (by Tolkien) and also am knee-deep into book 4 of Steven King’s Dark Tower series.

Okay, so I have dedicated some time to Puzzle Quest (AWESOME) and I even dug up my old Angband saves.

Yes, I did beta test and pre-order Lord of the Rings Online. I’ll go ahead and sum up that review by saying, yes, it IS a knock-off of WoW. They’d be stupid not to copy a lot of the gameplay. But it packs a lot of features I’d been wanting WoW to implement for a long time. And I love their world PvP model. As in there is no world PvP model.

Sigh. There’s just not a lot of exciting stuff going on in Our Beloved Hobby, right now, beyond a little-known beta that starts up this week. Guess I can demolish some cars in Crackdown. Or maybe play Counter-Strike 2: Shadowrun when it comes out.
