DS Phat Stylus Discontinued
Last week, my Wife came to me in distress. The stylus on her DS Phat had came apart, the top plastic piece popped right off and would no longer stay in the system. This was the fourth stylus that had the top pop off, the original stylus and three “official” Nintendo versions we had purchased since then.
So, after her temporarily using a Palm Pilot stylus for a few days, I took a trek down to the local Best Buy. I sifted through the aisle of worthless DS crap and found the sea of stylus’ (stylii?) There was no Phat to be found, anywhere. I asked one of the dead-weight employees there;
“Nope sorry, discontinued.” He looks quite dejected by my question.
“You get this question often?” I follow up.
“Yep, every day.” puffing his cheeks out while staring at the DS accessory rack.
My wife was quiet, she knew that I was going to be pissed off enough for both of us. It’s things like this that will drive you batty, discontinuing absolutely necessary accessories just to force people to upgrade to their newest revision. This wasn’t only at Best Buy, I checked Circuit City and Gamestop/EB, no dice.
You might be thinking, “Dude, just get a Lite.” The real problem is that my Wife doesn’t want a DS Lite, she thinks it feels cheap and weak compared to her clam shell Phat. I can’t blame her, although the screen on the Lite is far superior, it does feel cheap and hardly an upgrade. Overall, she doesn’t want one at all, which is what really matters.
So now she’s still tapping away at Puzzle Quest with her Palm stylus, which is actually more comfortable but with the lack of storage, she loses it every other day or so. I can’t see buying a new DS at this point, especially considering the fact that a new one is probably around the corner.
Did I mention I’m pissed off?
