Deus Ex Franchise To Return
The Deus Ex franchise is one of my favorites on the PC due to its “take your own approach” style of gaming. While not as wide open as a Grand Theft Auto, it was a breath of fresh air into the FPS/RPG/Adventure gaming world. It was even hard to tell what genre to put Deus Ex in, because it told a story like an old school adventure game, but did it in a FPS style, while mixing in RPG elements.
When the sequel was announced, I followed it very closely. I was ready for more immersion into the world of Deus Ex and to find out what happened to JC Denton. Unfortunately, a lot of what made Deus Ex great was thrown out the window while trying to make the game for not only the PC, but the console as well. While it was a decent title, it lost a lot of the charm that made the first Deus Ex so great.
Today, I was overjoyed when I heard the rumor that Deus Ex will be brought out of retirement for a new game. This is great news. Eidos had a great title on its hands and tried too hard to appease not only PC gamers, but console gamers as well. The game is almost officially announced, but one has to wonder if it will be any good without Warren Spector at the helm. His creative genius is one of the main reasons the first Deus Ex was so good. Hopefully, we get answers sooner than later.
