Brawl developer blog getting annoying.

My days of clamoring for more information on Super Smash Bros Brawl may not be over until the game is actually in my hot little hands, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m getting annoyed with checking the developer blog every day. If you haven’t been watching or really don’t care (uh, why are you reading this then?), Nintendo opened a new developer blog for the game a couple of days ago and they’ve been adding small bits of info to it every day. First it was a list of famed Japanese composers contributing to the game and some information about arenas that change over time. The second day had profiles of Mario and Link as characters in the game. The third, which is what’s there now, Gooey Bombs. A new item in the game, a sticky bomb that you can throw at an opponent which will cling until it detonates or they successfully pass it to another opponent.

These are great bits of information, and of course they want to draw out the attention as long as they can while they finish up the game, as well as getting lots of news stories on other sites like this one. I can understand that, I studied advertising. But the result to me is I’m starting to get burned out on the information. I would have been happier with a single new character being announced, and then silence for a couple of weeks. Trickling it out like this is tiring, and I find myself wanting to just oh, check back in a week. But I won’t do that, because at this point I’ve got a couple of days’ patience left in me. More, if they throw out a new character in the next day or so.

I’m actually enjoying the developer blog. It’s so unusual to get game information details a little at a time every day that it’s kind of refreshing. I can just check the blog each morning and in less than 5 minutes I know more about Brawl than I did previously.

Don’t hold your breath on them releasing new character information. They will save that for big announcements, and then bring them over to the Blog. I lik the blog too though. I was very excited for the Gooey Bomb. If they threw up a bunch of information at once, it would all be overshadowed by the characters.
