The first appearance of a Square or Enix title on Virtual Console happened a few minutes ago with the arrival of Actraiser, a SNES game for 800 points. Also appearing are Kid Chameleon, from the Genesis, also for 800 points, and JJ and Jeff, a TG-16 game for 600.

Actraiser is a great game and a lot of people seem to have a problem with it for some reason. It hasn’t seen any remakes or reissues since Enix’s first release of the game years ago, so it should be much more welcome than it is. I enjoyed the gameplay the first time around, but the music alone is worth the price of admission. I have the “Birth of the People” song as a ringtone on my phone. More Yuzo Koshiro musical love to the Virtual Console and I couldn’t be happier. Well, I would be happier if I had enough points for the game right now.

JJ and Jeff is a platformer. From what I’ve read the original version (in Japan) involved a farting attack, and the characters are based on characters from some kind of TV show, I imagine something along the lines of a Beavis and Butt-head thing. The Wikipedia entry says the show inspired America’s Funniest Home Videos. So maybe not.

Kid Chameleon is one of those games I remember seeing around when it first was out. The cover looks really, really familiar… I wonder if maybe I did play it, and just don’t recall the details. Some serious Deja Vu there.

Anyway, get consuming.
