Sega confirms NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

fooldoll.pngSega has a press release on their website now confirming that NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, the sequel to the Saturn cult hit NiGHTS into Dreams is not only real, but is indeed coming to Wii this year. Both games star a purple-clad jester named NiGHTS who flies with some amount of acrobatic skill and uh… well, to be honest, I don’t know anything really about the series from first-hand experience, so I’ll leave this one for those who have fond memories of the popular original game.

Now, former Sonic Team man Yuji Naka is out of the project, presumably because he isn’t in Sonic Team anymore and has said in the past he doesn’t want to do a NiGHTS sequel, but the game’s being done without him by at least one other member of the original team. That is to say, a member who’s most recently known for last year’s abysmal Shadow the Hedgehog. We’ll see how this turns out.

“The critically-acclaimed franchise that gave gamers the freedom to fly in a world of dreams is coming to the Wii‚Ñ¢! As a fantasy jester called NiGHTS, you will experience a heightened sense of gliding, spiraling, and looping through seven extraordinary worlds of Nightopia where the ocean resides in the sky and glass-formed cliffs overlook a castle of mirrors. When the “Nightmarens” from the neighboring dark world of Nightmare infiltrate the idyllic Nightopia, NiGHTS must defend the dream world to keep it safe for all dreamers. This holiday, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will take you in a voyage filled with courage, hope and inspiration.”

The press release says this one’s due in the Fall.
