RedOctane Admits Patching Problem for GH2

File this under “Whoops”, but it seems that the Whammy bar fix for the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2 has cause some users to have lock ups with their consoles. RedOctane has admitted there have been some isolated instances with the patch, but would not say anything further.

A day or two later, there are people saying that the patch has now caused them to get the red ring of death or worse, a bricked system that is completely dead. This could be a big deal if true, because if the systems are out of warranty, this becomes a $100 fix for the customer who has already dropped $90 on the game.

News comes from Eurogamer.net.

I can see a game crashing from a patch, but not the console being bricked. That doesn’t seem to make much sense to me given that Microsoft would need to at least, ah, green-light the patch if it changed something in the firmware, right?

One other patch problem: transferring scores to the online leaderboards from your offline game.

Bill Harris has info on it here:

Did Red Octane actually say this or is this another “a rep on the phone told me” story like the last bogus return your guitars if they are 055 or 065 (covering every guitar) story?
