PS3 1.70: Rumble, Play Downloaded PlayStation games on PS3.

PS3I just downloaded the 1.70 firmware for the PS3, and the installation notes the following:

* You can now download PlayStation format software from the PlayStation Store and play it on PS3.

* You can use saved data for PlayStation format software on the PSP system.

* You can now use the vibration function of accessories that are for use with PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format software.

Finally! I’m hopeful #2 means that you can take PlayStation saved games from the PS3 and play them on your PSP on the go.

UPDATE #1: Dual Shock 2 rumble confirmed: This USB adapter that lets me connect my Dual Shock 2 to the PS3 now conducts vibration messages to the Dual Shock 2 for PS2 games. I tried it out with God of War II.

UPDATE #2: PSP Firmware 3.40 has been released and removes the Certificate manager item from the XMB, as well as expands support for “PlayStation Network titles”. I’m guessing this has to do with copying the PS1 games from the PS3 to the PSP, perhaps playing them on both machines? Hmm.
