Opera gives satisfactory answer to Flash 7 limitation in Opera for Wii.

flash-bulb.pngNow it’s time to give Adobe a hard time. It turns out, according to a tech at Opera, Adobe has not released an SDK for non Windows/Mac/Linux platforms that supports anything newer than Flash 7, meaning support for Flash 8 or newer cannot happen at this time.

The answer is simple: there is no way to do so. It is out of both Opera and Nintendo’s hands.

When I call that answer satisfactory, I’m not deriding it, I’m just saying it’s not the end as far as I’m concerned. Demand for an updated SDK is likely to follow the demand for the Wii, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Opera and Nintendo are leaning on Adobe as we speak.

Here’s how I’m helping them along, and you can too, right here.

*******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
Updated Flash SDK for mobile platforms.

How would you like the feature to work?
As well as it does on non-mobile platforms.

Why is this feature important to you?
I want to use the newest version of Flash in my Opera mobile browser. Flash 8+ support in mobile versions of Opera would broaden use of Adobe’s format on platforms that are becoming more popular all the time.

Wii browser out! But why Flash 7 and not 8 or 9? via GoNintendo.

Just filled out the form. Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Maybe we can help Nintendo and Opera get some traction on this issue with a little “grass roots”……….or not. :)
