Lost Planet coming to Windows Vista

Submitted by on April 13, 2007 – 11:24 am2 Comments

Lost PlanetCapcom has confirmed that Lost Planet is headed for the PC and will have a June delivery date. While I’m always happy to see more games in the online shooter ecosystem, I’m not happy with the fact that it’s a going to be a DirectX10 game. That means Windows Vista only, so I wouldn’t expect this game to have meaningful sales for the next year.

Why would a developer and publisher require DirectX10 when the installed base of Vista machines is still so small? Do they expect their game to still be popular and meaningful when most machines are Vista machines however many years that takes? It seems obvious to me that Microsoft demanded it use DirectX10. The market certainly isn’t making that demand.

It probably will not require DX10 to run. But will make calls to look for Vista. Halo 2, was announced as Halo 2 for Vista, but has been mentioned that it runs on DX9.0c, not DX10 as has been assumed.
