Ladanian Tomlinson Spared the Madden Curse

San Diego fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Ladanian Tomlinson will not be the cover athlete for Madden 08. That honor will go to Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans.

San Diego fans were in an uproar when they found out that the crux of their team was going to be on the cover of Madden. It seems that the last few years has seen a bad year for whoever graces the cover of Madden. From Garrison Hearst on the cover of Madden 99 all the way to Shaun Alexander on Madden 07 have had some sort of serious injury that knocks them out of the season or just a horrible statistical season. This has some times been named the “Madden Curse“, similar to the “Sports Illustrated Curse“.

Not sure about anyone else, but I sure as hell would not want to be in Vince Young’s shoes right about now. Tennessee might want to make sure the have a good insurance policy and a backup quarterback.
