Gamespot had a story posted earlier this morning with this picture showing the keyboard attachment for the 360 controller. The keyboard has 47 keys and attaches to the mic spot at the bottom of the controller. So one has to wonder why the keyboard attachment was created. Well, that is because the May update for Xbox Live will include Live Messenger. That is correct, Live Messenger is coming to Xbox Live. You will now be able to chat to your Xbox friends with Live Messenger. This update is suppose to happen May 8th, which is when Games for Windows is suppose to launch.

As of 11:00 AM Pacific time, the stories had been pulled. It looks like they were not suppose to list until tomorrow morning, but the images are still in the news section, but the stories no longer go anywhere. Looks as if the convergence of console and PCs is coming May 8th and is coming in big. And yes, I know that Dreamcast did it first, but this has a lot more money and marketing behind it.

Gamespot still have the pictures and links up, but the links just come back to the main page.

It should also be noted that the 360 already supports USB keyboards, so you don’t have to buy another over-priced add-on.

I guess this helping move towards the Windows Live Experience AKA cross platform comptability.

I don’t know why the 360 needs this if you can just do voice chat. Doesn’t Live Messenger support voice chat as well?

Not sure why they’re introducing this? I would rather chat with people via the mic. But I guess it’s for people who don’t have one.

I’m glad to see the leaked video is legit. It looks like text chat will be available in-game as well, so you don’t have to exit the game to do so.

Not that I’ll really ever do that but hey, maybe I’ll get an easy cap one day in Rainbow Six because of it. :-D
