John Romero, of Daikatana fame, recently sat down with Adrenaline Vault for an interview on the state of PC gaming and where it sits in the gaming sphere of existence. It was interesting to note that Romero thinks that the PC will become the gaming console of choice in the future. He backs this claim up by referencing how close the consoles are to PCs right now.

He also talked about how funding from a venture capital group is so much better than a publisher, because with venture capital funding, the money is already there. It is not coming from a bank. The capital in invested right off the bat, so they don’t worry as much about milestones and the like.

I think that the man is right to some degree. PCs will become more like consoles and consoles will become more like PCs. I am not sure if they will merge into one product, but it is an interesting thought.

Yes, he’s right in saying that consoles are becoming more like PC with each generation.

But PC’s don’t have that Ease-Of-Use (TM) that consoles provide. They don’t have the Uniform-Hardware-Platform that consoles provide.

They (who are these people anyways? :) ) stated YEARS ago that PC’s would overtake consoles as the gaming platform. As it stands right now, I’m pretty sure that consoles are much higher on the gaming food chain, than PCs. Just look at the release calendars for games on the various consoles and compare that to what’s in the pipeline for PCs.

BTW, is that picture a relatively correct image of John Romero? If so he looks awfully a lot like Keanu Reeves.
